The Historic Ashtabula Lighthouse

Since 1836 the Ashtabula Harbor has been bright beacon to guide the ships sailing on Lake Erie. Our current three story light- house was built in 1905 of heavy steel plate, much as you would see in an old Great Lakes Ore Boat. The structure was relocated in 1916, 2,500 feet north on the breakwater at the entrance to the Ashtabula Harbor.

The Ashtabula Light- house was the last lighthouse on Lake Erie to be manned by Lighthouse Keepers until 1973 when it was finally automated.
